Did not receive PIN for practice tests On the inside of the front cover, there's text telling me to scratch below for a PIN to activate my 4 full-length, online practice tests. Only, there is nothing to scratch and therefore no PIN. There are 2 practice exams within the text comprising about 50 pages. The first 50 pages are all about the preparation before the exams, and the middle 170 pages contain the actual information regarding the material. I haven't gone through it all yet and the actual information is probably useful, but it's extremely disappointing there's no access to the promised practice exams.First time taking the SIE Exam? Well as I can not disclose information regarding the test, I can assure you this book did not help as much in the sense of terms and understanding the content. I highly recommend STC as a study guide for the SIE, STC outperformed this book and the practice test and added content of STC provided more value.This book was poorly written and the practice test where just as bad with many bugs and glitches. I hope as time goes on this book will get better with future editions. As of right now this book was not as straight to the fact as STC, but I'll give it credit for some little tips in the form as jokes to remember a few things.*****WARNING***** NO ONLINE ACCESS TO TESTS The book was not authentic and did not provide online access to study materials.

Schrödinger asks what place consciousness occupies in the evolution of life and what part the state of development of the human mind plays in moral questions. 

Brought together with these two classics are Schrödinger's autobiographical sketches. They offer a fascinating fragmentary account of his life as a background to his scientific writings, making this volume a valuable addition to the shelves of scientist and layman alike.

Well worth reading, a bit of a scientific classic in my opinion. Well worth reading, a bit of a scientific classic. It is interesting to see how much was known and speculated about the likely nature of the carrier of genetic information, even before DNA was discovered. The author also has some interesting philosophical and religious speculations, though he remains grounded in the scientific consensus of the day, for the most part. This relatively short and inexpensive book should become part of any scientifically literate person's background reading, IMHO.A classic Schrödinger's What is Life? Is a classic. In spite of the new advancements in genetics that supersede some of the notions addressed, this book remains fundamental to science and for anyone with an interest in biology, physics and chemistry.Published in 1944, nine years before the discovery of the structure of DNA, this book was written after a series of lectures given by Erwin Schrödinger. It is intended to the general reader, as it offers detailed explanation of the topics, however, it must be read carefully because of the complexity of the issues. Schrödinger answers the question of how can physics and chemistry explain the events that take place in living organisms. As a physicist's he is very humble, given that he is approaching a topic outside of his expertise area, however his insight is brilliant. He makes a theoretical prediction and based on sound arguments he proposes an "aperiodic crystal" that contains genetic information.This reprint edition is completed with a nice preface by physicist Roger Penrose, but the highlight is the accompanying text Mind and Matter, also by Schrödinger. This offers a great finale, with a philosophical discourse dealing with consciousness, free will and determinism.

Great content, flimsy construction. Bought these for 3yr old toddler learning to read. Very nice repetition of words in each story, nice simple drawings for reading clues, cute stories that engage interest at this level, included are good tips for parents to teach kids. Why 4 stars, because they are very flimsy, very thin pages, way too easy for toddler (targeted age group)to rip before you can rescue book. These go on the out of reach shelf unless we are reading together, which is kind of a shame really because one of his favorite things to do is sit and thumb through his books picking out words he knows telling himself the jist of the stories. Also, I know kids books are expensive in general, but the quality of the books ( not the content)could have been better for the price.Very beginner sight word readers This is a nice set for the price. It is very beginner, the books do not progress in level, one book is just as easy as the next and the 7 pages in the books are very very repetitive. If your child is at the point were they are learning to point at a word to read and you are looking for a sight word(dolch) readers set. These are the books for you.These books do not build on one another like leveled readers do. Each book adresses a sight word or two and are independent of the other books in the set.an example:(that is the words for the entire 7 pages in the book.Hello, sun.Hello, Sand.Hello, shell.Hello, Crab.Hello, gull.Hello, sail.Well, Hello, whale!another example:I add the banana.I add the ice cream.I add the chocolate.I add the whipped cream.I add the nuts.I add the cherries.We share dessert!I would prefer a beginner reader that switches the words around a little more, so they aren't quit so easy to just remember with out looking at the words in the sentence.But young children will find these rewarding to read until they become more confident readers.Great confidence booster for beginners 25 books, each has about 5 pages. I do wish they had a couple of more, but it is not a complaint.My daughter can read, but doesn't want to try because she doesn't think she can do it. but it can become tedious when the characters "furiously take notes The Phoenix Project is a business book masquerading as a work of fiction. As soon as I started evaluating The Phoenix Project in the context of a business book, rather than fiction, I started enjoying it a lot more, gaining much more insight into the concepts presented, rather than focusing on the unsophisticated prose and highly contrived scenarios. The "plot" serves as a vehicle for the authors to explore and pontificate on the business ideologies presented throughout. The main character, Bill, is mentored through each of these concepts, implementing them for the benefit of the reader to see the dramatic impact each can have on a business. For the most part, this is well executed, but it can become tedious when the characters "furiously take notes, so that they can google the terms later." Yes, the authors really write this, banging the reader of the head with, "Hey Dummy, are you paying attention? This is important."One of the best parts of the book was actually after the fictional plot ended, and the authors took the extra time to collect the concepts presented and revist them in a brief summary at the end. I hoped for this, as going back through The Phoenix Project to find each in turn, and learn more would have been difficult. If I could suggest to the authors an improvement, it would be to break the 4th wall during the fictional telling of the plot, and provide footnotes or references to the reader referencing where in the summary section they can read a bit more about a given concept. Nothing would be lost by this approach, as the reader quicky realizes the point and purpose of the plot anyways.Overall, The Phoenix Project provides an easy way for non-business people to get their feet wet with process improvements, without making the explanations and concepts too burdensome. I find myself quoting passages with co-workers who've also read the book, realizing that all too many of the scenarios presented are real life problems we face everyday (though perhaps less severely than in the Phoenix Project.) As such, I know I've already taken something away from the book, even if I won't have a chance to master every improvement, or even experiment with them all. It provides a new way of thinking about software development, and all the organizations it impacts. Four stars.
