Priceless! Suffering from ever increasing depression, anxiety and some pretty severe "road rage" due to my Parkinson's Disease with Mild Cognitive Impairment diagnosis almost four years ago, I finally sought help from a Psychiatrists and (almost) the first words to come out of his mouth (after giving a background of my situation) were "You will need to look into "Mindfulness" and "you will need to attend the 6 week MBSR training offered through (my healthcare provider)". MBSR or Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, which began over 20 years ago at U. Mass, is what this book is all about and it is required reading as part of the course.The classes were great for asking questions, getting clarifications when needed and to practice the meditations, but honestly, what I learned by reading the book was the primary catalyst that drove me to meditate and has allowed me to achieve a calm and peace of mind that I previously had believed was going to be impossible to attain.Mindfulness is an ongoing practice, you must commit to it and use it daily but the changes it has brought about in my peace of mind, calmness, equanimity, and sense of well being is quite honestly...priceless! Not cured mind you; I will always be a work in progress, especially as my disease progresses, but where I am at today...is an infinitely better place than before I read this book.With all the stories that are shared this book reads more like a novel and not at all like a textbook!My wife is reading it now and will begin classes shortly and she is using the techniques I shared with her to cope with a stressful work environment.Must read for those coping with health issues.Sometimes I think back... To the days of my life before I found this book, or as I sometimes like to look at it, before this book found me. I was a high strung mess of anxiety, even afraid to go to work and face the "challenges" of a day of social interaction and internal struggle and emotions. I wasn't completely sure what I was, but I was pretty sure I was suffering from what doctors would call social or maybe generalized anxiety. And with that came depression and sometimes hopelessness of ever changing and moving on. This went on for years--for as far back as I can remember--and it only seemed like it was getting worse, and I was never able to accept myself, I thought myself a failure of some sort. What had I or my parents done wrong in raising me? Why me?When I found this book, I had been through several programs for anxiety that I had found and downloaded online--none of them helping much--and when I read the introduction, something about it clicked with me. It somehow subconsciously made sense and I knew that I had found something that might actually change the way I WAS, and unknowingly but much more importantly, change the way I viewed myself.Over the next 8 months, I almost religiously followed the exercises in the book. I learned more about myself and the world around me in those eight months than I have in the past ten years, at least it feels that way.To cut a long story short, I still have anxiety, but on a scale of 1-10 it is now a 2 where it was an 7 or an 8 before. Simply put, practicing mindfulness pulls the rug from under anything that bothers you in any way. It teaches you that it's ok to feel any emotion and think any thought because that is what is already here. It teaches you to accept those things, and in the process of doing that, those horrible horrible things lose their power over you, and you can begin to heal.To anyone suffering from emotional pain of any sort, please let me be an example to you that you don't have to be controlled by these terrible feelings. Learn to accept them as they are, and they will go away by themselves.This book is a great way to start. Please considerCan't seem to get a grip on your mind? Read this book and I think you will thank me. I think all of us in today's world that have our head spinning around the clock and cant shut down should read and follow the easy to do and don't over think this book, in a matter of fact learn how not to think about the past or future and get the mind into the moment. Hard to describe but being 61 years old and having both physical pain and mind racing at night sleeping difficulty has made life much better and clearer in everyday doing.

Unbiased review Was a huge fan of the YouTube channel but I read books with an unbiased and low expectations no matter who wrote it. When I read it, it just made me appreciate my life so much afterwards, so much so that I cried in joyfullness. The book covers on how pretty much all famous inventors and some that aren't well known. This book showed that we are much more capable than what we think we are capable of.The best book I have ever read!! It is like reading the summary of technological advancements happened in every decade.It was very enjoyable! Short and concise, if I can give it 4.5 stars I would. Since that's not an option I'll give a 5. Mainly because of some minor things like grammar and disagreement about Ripple, ripple is not a blockchain, perhaps my own opinion.

Did not receive PIN for practice tests On the inside of the front cover, there's text telling me to scratch below for a PIN to activate my 4 full-length, online practice tests. Only, there is nothing to scratch and therefore no PIN. There are 2 practice exams within the text comprising about 50 pages. The first 50 pages are all about the preparation before the exams, and the middle 170 pages contain the actual information regarding the material. I haven't gone through it all yet and the actual information is probably useful, but it's extremely disappointing there's no access to the promised practice exams.First time taking the SIE Exam? Well as I can not disclose information regarding the test, I can assure you this book did not help as much in the sense of terms and understanding the content. I highly recommend STC as a study guide for the SIE, STC outperformed this book and the practice test and added content of STC provided more value.This book was poorly written and the practice test where just as bad with many bugs and glitches. I hope as time goes on this book will get better with future editions. As of right now this book was not as straight to the fact as STC, but I'll give it credit for some little tips in the form as jokes to remember a few things.*****WARNING***** NO ONLINE ACCESS TO TESTS The book was not authentic and did not provide online access to study materials.

The philosopher Karl Popper hailed it as a "beautiful and important book" by "a great man to whom I owe a personal debt for many exciting discussions." 

It appears here together with "Mind and Matter", his essay investigating a relationship which has eluded and puzzled philosophers since the earliest times. Schrödinger asks what place consciousness occupies in the evolution of life and what part the state of development of the human mind plays in moral questions. 

Brought together with these two classics are Schrödinger's autobiographical sketches. They offer a fascinating fragmentary account of his life as a background to his scientific writings, making this volume a valuable addition to the shelves of scientist and layman alike.

Well worth reading, a bit of a scientific classic in my opinion. Well worth reading, a bit of a scientific classic. It is interesting to see how much was known and speculated about the likely nature of the carrier of genetic information, even before DNA was discovered. The author also has some interesting philosophical and religious speculations, though he remains grounded in the scientific consensus of the day, for the most part. This relatively short and inexpensive book should become part of any scientifically literate person's background reading, IMHO.A classic Schrödinger's What is Life? Is a classic. In spite of the new advancements in genetics that supersede some of the notions addressed, this book remains fundamental to science and for anyone with an interest in biology, physics and chemistry.Published in 1944, nine years before the discovery of the structure of DNA, this book was written after a series of lectures given by Erwin Schrödinger. It is intended to the general reader, as it offers detailed explanation of the topics, however, it must be read carefully because of the complexity of the issues. Schrödinger answers the question of how can physics and chemistry explain the events that take place in living organisms. As a physicist's he is very humble, given that he is approaching a topic outside of his expertise area, however his insight is brilliant. He makes a theoretical prediction and based on sound arguments he proposes an "aperiodic crystal" that contains genetic information.This reprint edition is completed with a nice preface by physicist Roger Penrose, but the highlight is the accompanying text Mind and Matter, also by Schrödinger. This offers a great finale, with a philosophical discourse dealing with consciousness, free will and determinism.
